#75 'New York Ellis Island' Restored'
Ellis Island is actually part of New York and New Jersey as it is on the New York Harbor that these two states share.
It all began on June 15, 1987 for Ellis Island's new arrivals. Most immigrants entered the United States through New York Harbor, although there were other ports of entry in cities such as Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, and New Orleans. The great steamship companies like the White Star, Red Star, Cunard, and Hamburg-America Lines also played a significant role in the history of Ellis Island and immigration as a whole.
First and second class passengers arriving in New York Harbor were not required to undergo the inspection process at Ellis Island. Instead, these passengers received a cursory inspection aboard the ship, theory being that if a person could afford to purchase a first or second class ticket they were affluent and less likely to become a public charge in America due to medical or legal reasons. However, regardless of class, sick passengers or those with legal problems were sent to Ellis Island for further inspection.
This scenario was far different for third class passengers, commonly referred to as “steerage.” These immigrants traveled in crowded and often unsanitary conditions near the bottom of steamships, often spending up to two weeks seasick in their bunks during rough Atlantic Ocean crossings. After the steamship docked in the Harbor (typically along the west coast of Manhattan) steerage passengers would board a ferry to Ellis Island for their detailed inspection.

#9 'Boston South End Stunning Patio'
This image was taken in the summer in South End Boston at the multi-level garden for a brownstone home of three stories. It is truly the most sensational and restful garden I captured in my photography for all of downtown Boston.
If you decide to purchase this image, you may also want to purchase Image #11 as it is the view from this brownstone rooftop looking to Back Bay Boston over what appaers to be a high hill which is just an allusion. This pair of curated images would be stunning hanging together as both being horizontal views.
The gentlemen who owned this home at the time of this shootng, had green thumbs and great taste to pick to own a building tha had that great space for the patio, and even more that rooftop view of a perfect day. This poster represents the event held in 2006 in Martin Lawrence gallery in Boston, at the opening event to promote Philippe Bertho's work. What is so wonderful about his design images is the playful nature and the tiny characters he placed in his art. At the opening event, a live mime was there dressed exactly like a character in this work, in a black and whte stripped jumpsuit, and red berat. This sweet dorway is so representative of Beacon Hill which is a tightly designed quietier neighborhood that is very historic. It was known as where the Boston strangler territory long ago. The gold dome of the State House looms over the brownstones. Many streets are a combination of brick sidewalks and some brick and irreguar cobblestones within the composition of the neighboring streets. The streets are only one lane and one way and some don't have any parking on the side at all.

Yellow wooden house in Old Town Marblehead which is the most historic neighborhood dated back to the latter 1600's. The ceilings in many of the oldest homes give you the feeling of needing to bend down if you're tall as people back in that time were shorter. This is located very close to where shrimp boats come into the harbor even today to offload their catch in the local markets, and with passerbys who can purchase at the dock little building.

#16 'Marblehead Red Cottage in Spring'
This Red House and tiny garden are found on a walk very close to the harbor in Old Town Marblehead. This Marblehead series of four images was created before Carol Martling turned professional in her photography endeavors. Marblehead is one of the most charming and photographic harbors in the US. Also the town's pace is relaxing and the July 4th Arts Festival was a highlight of the year. It had art, music concerts at night in Crocker Park that overlooks the boats at moorings in the harbor. Carol was fortunate that she lived in Marblehead from 1979 - 1999.

#13 'Marblehead Vine Doorway'
This Marblehead doorway was located at Reds Pond which is a lovely spot where neighbors launch their little model boats on the pond with a remote controller across from this home. Old Town Marblehead goes back to late 1700's. And today the harbor still has local fishermen coming back to their dock and off loading their catch for the day. We could walk down and actually buy directly from the fishermen right there at Marblehead Landing.
